This was our 2nd visit to Roatan and our 1st to stay in West End. You are staying at Mangrove Bight which is a 3 minute walk down a gravel road to Half Moon Bay which is like a suburb to West End which is around the bend. There is no sandy beach at the condo, but, they have a nice pool and a dock in the bight. Jackie & Peter are very accommodating!! Jackie is a real sweetheart. She was ever so helpful in helping us with suggestions on where to go and where to eat, along with much info on the area and the island as well. The condo is very comfortable with all the conveiniances of home. Beware if you like A/C. I had noticed most places gave you a $100 credit towards the electricity. It being one of the most expensive commodities on the island. My husband is very hot natured & we kept the a/c on 24/7. We ended up using $300 worth of electricity, which we had the $100 credit already included in our rent, coming up to $200 balance. You cannot use the water either. But, this was not a problem. They accommodate you with several jugs of water that is hooked up to the refrigerator. With that being said, the beds were very comfortable along with the living room furniture. There were flat screen tvs in every room. Great English speaking channels available. The balcony is very nice and the rooftop patio is outstanding!! They have an extra bathroom on top with a shower, actually making 3 baths. They also have an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill up there! We had blackened Tuna one night that my brother in law had caught with Peter on a fishing trip!! They have a nice boat & will take you out fishing or snorkeling for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend staying at Mangrove Dock! Jackie & Peter are the best!! -- Debigail, Memphis, TN
Had a great week on Roatan in November, which was the start of their rainy season so we did endure a few showers!. We stayed in a spacious condo at Mangrove Dock, very nice and our hosts, Jackie and Peter were wonderful. They are very familiar with the island and the people, so were very helpful in suggesting places to see and things to do while there. -- Clare, Jefferson City, MO
Great Stay Once Again
This review is a bit late…but you know what they say better late than never. We rented this wonderful condo at Mangrove Dock for 5 weeks, January 26th till March 2nd and loved it.
Jackie & Peter are wonderful hosts and if you have any questions or something is not quite right just let them know and they will get you the answer if they don’t already know it or get it fixed promptly.
We were on the second floor which was really nothing of a walk up…even with my bad knees. You enter into a spacious foyer which is a great place to keep your shoes & other miscellaneous stuff like water toys/dive gear. Off of the foyer is the laundry room with washer, gas dryer, broom & mop. There is also one of those stand up clothes dryers that we used all the time. From there it’s into the big kitchen that has everything ++ you’ll need during your stay…loved that the fridge dispensed purified water and had an ice maker, we never ran out of ice. From the kitchen you could look right through to the dining room, living room and straight outside as it is open concept. The three very good sized bedrooms ran down one side of the condo, with the master being the biggest.
It’s no more than a 5 minute slow stroll to the beach, with lots of restaurants, dive shops & variety of other shops/stores. We went out all most every day, sometimes just to go diving, sometimes swimming, sometimes to take a water taxi to West Bay which we did a few times. Nothing is out of reach. We had stopped at Eldon’s (big grocery store) on our way to the condo so had lots of supplies but we found anything else we needed could be purchased at the Woody’s convenience store only 5 minutes away.
We rented a car & mopeds a couple different times and it was nice to be able to park them right at Mangrove Dock and know that the night watchman would keep his eyes open for them and look out for us also.
The area around Mangrove Dock is quite so you can always get a good night’s sleep with the windows open as there is always a nice breeze keeping the temperatures down.
Anyone visiting the island needs to learn to slow down and go with the pace; nothing is done fast but in this heat who wants to go fast!
Enjoy your vacation…we sure did and can’t wait to go back again next year!
